ADNOC returns to fuel 2012 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge

Leading global oil company provides logistical support for world-class rally

ABU DHABI (UAE). Saturday, March 31, 2011:The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, which gets underway on Sunday, is one of the world’s most prestigious and demanding rallies, requiring massive logistical support to keep competitors running. And the 2012 edition will once again benefit from the crucial involvement of one of the world’s leading oil companies, ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company).

ADNOC has been integrally involved with the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, and motorsport in the United Arab Emirates, for over 20 years. Without its support, such a demanding and complex format would not be possible, in particular the extended length of the stages that criss-cross the beautiful Western Region desert. In appreciation of this support, the second stage of the rally is specially named after ADNOC.

The company’s partnership with the Desert Challenge does not simply cover the provision of the fuel required to power over 110 vehicles across the Liwa dunes. Marshals, officials and other support staff will be powered by ADNOC, as will the medical helicopters that are critical to the running of the rally. The company also provides support crews and tankers and helps with the planning of the routes.

“The support of ADNOC is absolutely essential for the smooth running of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, and has contributed massively to the success of this event for some 20 years,” said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, founder of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and Chairman of rally organisers the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE).

The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is held under the under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region.
